When making a large purchase like a car, TV or a mattress, people really hate the experience of “upselling” of extended warranties and accessories. But with buying a mattress, The Healthy Bed Store highly recommends the purchase of some type of mattress protector.
For years, experts have always said that we never go to bed alone in that real sense because in between our sheets and beddings, thousands of microorganisms thrive and make the bed their home. These microorganisms aren’t harmful to most people. But just the same, the sheets, mattress and the bed requires regular cleaning, as the process adds to the comfort we get when we go to sleep.
The frequency of cleaning the bed varies from person to person but, ideally, and as recommended by a microbiologist in New York University’s Langone Medical Center, beddings and pillowcases need to be washed weekly so that it is rid of any “debris that has accumulated in the bed for that week”. These debris include our dead skin cells, lints, fiber, insect parts, animal hair, cosmetics residue and a lot more.
When we perspire in bed, or eat there as you watch TV, plenty of debris fall on the sheets and contribute to its soiling. The mattress, for instance, is a so called “debris-gravity” which absorbs debris even right to the core. If you don’t provide proper mattress covering, ignoring this can eventually lead to the development of allergy. Lastly, it’s best to clean sheets and mattress pads in warm water as this is most effective to kill germs.
Another reason to purchase a protective mattress pad – your warranty. We don’t really agree with this but all mattress manufacturers warranties specifically state that if their mattress has a defect, the warranty can be voided if the mattress is stained or soiled, has odors like perfume or smoke or any other signs of abnormal wear and tear. So… by purchasing and using a protective mattress pad, you will avoid any hassle in the rare instance that a manufacturers defect occurs.
The Healthy Bed Store carries the largest variety of mattress protectors in the Sacramento area. We have water-proof protectors from Gotcha Covered, Protect-A-Bed, DreamFit and Natura, from economy-priced to plush wool-filled. We also have non-waterproof washable pads from Sleep & Beyond and organic wool and flannel protectors from OrganicPedic.
Remember our slogan – what you sleep on is what you breathe in. Mattress protectors keep your bed clean and safe so you don’t breath in any normal debris that can accumulate on your mattress.
